In the ‘90s, Michele Scott decided to take up a little hobby of quilting to pass the time. Like every other self-respecting quiltaholic, it quickly became a passion. Michele became especially fascinated with the freedom of free motion quilting, creating designs that need no marking. Embellishing quilts with a variety of decorative threads was thrilling to her, and she was determined to incorporate as many of them in her quilts as she could! Working with these threads could sometimes be frustrating, so she spent countless hours developing strategies to work with them more effectively.

Michele Scott’s trademark humor combined with her extensive quilting knowledge and eye for color and design make any of her workshops or lectures well worth attending.  Michele teaches positive, upbeat classes full of solid techniques to give all levels of quilters new confidence. For the past 20 years, she has taught at quilt guilds and shows across the United States and Canada. Michele is also an instructor on AQS's iquilt! Her class, Successful Machine Quilting: Basics to Bobbins, is a tremendous success! iquilt is a site featuring amazing classes with award winning quilt instructors.

Michele’s quilt designs, articles and blogs can be found in a variety of major publications, including American Quilter's Society's American Quilter, McCall’s Quilting and Quick Quilts, Quilter’s Home, Designer’s Quarters and Fons and Porter – over 100 in all!  But by far, her greatest passion is designing fabrics for Northcott Silk.  Her 11th collection, Dino Stomp, can be found on shelves now across the country.  She loves designing quilts especially for the textiles she’s created.

Michele’s book, Bobbin’ Quiltin’ and Fusin’ Fun was debuted by AQS. In this book, you will get a full machine quilting education – from basics to bobbins!  Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned machine quilter, you’ll love this book. Additionally, Michele paired up with Aurifil Threads to create her lines of machine quilting threads called Prism, Close to Home, and Calypso (designed specifically for her line of fabrics)!

Check out her new YouTube channel and you can get an idea of the fun you’ll have in her classes!

Artist's Statement
One of my greatest difficulties has been writing an Artist's Statement. I can't put into words how I feel about my work - art is the expression of my spirit. How do explain the excitement I feel when I see all of the beautiful colors of a seascape and the threads and paints that I use to translate those colors onto fiber? I don't know how to describe what that does to me. The closest I can come is to say that I feel that I am transported to a different time and space when arranging those colors into something new. In an Artist's Statement, you tell why you are doing it. I think to myself, "Why do I do this?" I have no idea. I just have to - it's instinct. It's the beauty of everything around me that drives me to create. Lucius Annaeus Senneca said, "All art is but an imitation of nature." What is created gives me the ultimate happiness.
